Mission:
To provide support to all
Bombay First Committees to initiate research projects relevant to the
mission and objectives of Bombay First, and widely disseminate the results
(through seminars, public debate, publication of the studies, press
releases and innovative media coverage) to mobilise public opinion. The
results of such studies undertaken by independent organisations give birth
to policy changes and reforms made to relevant Government agencies by
Bombay First.
Study
on IT Sector in Mumbai:
Present status of the industry
through qualitative and quantitative research reveals how to make Mumbai
an attractive destination. Qualitative module of the research study have
been completed by Quantitative module has been done by M/s. Taylor Nelson
Sofres Mode. The conclusion drawn by the study in that Mumbai is no more
the preferred destination for IT industries. The reasons quoted for this
are.
a) Government policies and initiatives.
b) IT talent migration
c) Diverse opportunities
d) High cost of accommodation and living
e) Transportation bottlenecks.
Advantages of Mumbai to become IT centre
are -
(a) RBI, major scheduled Banks, stock
exchange and commodity market exist in the City
(b) Leadership in commerce, industry and finance
(c) Supply of diverse qualified human resources
(d) International business language "English" widely spoken and
understood
(e) Good air, road, rail links and India's main port
(f) Good telecommunication
(g) Immense and diverse hinterland that benefits city (demand and supply
of goods, capital commodities and services)
(h) Advantageous time zone between North America/Europe and East Asia.
