		According to the 1991 Census, Greater Mumbai accounts for 13 per cent
		of the population of the State and only 1.2 per cent of that of the country.
		The rate of growth of population in Greater Mumbai is slowing down;
		from annual growth rate of 3.6 per cent forthe 1961-71 decade to 3.2 per cent
		for the 1971-81 decade and further to 1.9 per cent in the 1981-91 decade.

Literate Population

		Female literacy higher in Mumbai relative to the State.
		One-sixth of the state's literate males and one-eighth of females respectively, reside in Mumbai.

		Mumbai accounts for 33 per cent of the State's income in the Registered manufacturing;
		and 28 per cent of the State's income in unregistered manufacturing.

		30% and 42% respectively of the state's income generated in these segments.
		The tertiary sector, on the whole accounts for 36%
		of the State income generated in the tertiary sector.

		Mumbai accounts for almost 30% of FDI in the State.

		Between 1972 1997, the number of offices in Mumbai has almost trebled.
